Oakhurst Mural at Cook Children's Hospital!

Credit to our neighbors Jason and Felicia Gehrig for sharing the info and photos below:

Cook Children's Hospital has a new mural featuring houses from Marigold Ave in Oakhurst!  The mural is located in the hallway leading to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), and its purpose is to display images of joy and playfulness as the child patients are being wheeled into surgery.  Check out the photos below!

According to the Gehrigs, the hospital photographer—Gordon Trice—chose Oakhurst because he grew up in this area and always loved the neighborhood.  In fact, his first 'car date' was with a girl who lived in the Gehrigs' house (the cedar shake siding house pictured in the mural).  Mr. Trice also graduated from Amon Carter-Riverside High School.

Happy New Year!

A message from ONA president Elizabeth Neumann:

Can you believe we are about to start a new year, 2018?  As a kid, I always felt time stood still, yet as an adult I feel it is rushing by me and I cannot seem to catch up J  This past year, ONA had several fun events, focusing on the young ones and a few for the older folks.  The year ended with a wonderful Santa in Park event followed by the delightful ONA Christmas Party.  I am impressed by the quality of the ONA events and how everyone seems to have a good time.  A big thank you to all who have support these ONA events with their time and/or donation!

Throughout the year, I have witnessed a new spirit of unity and an appreciation of the volunteering efforts of several of our members.  ONA has an amazing core group of individuals with impressive talents and a passion for preserving the neighborhood’s unique ambiance.  I am hopeful that this year, 2018, you will consider participating in one or more of the ONA-sponsored events.

I am thankful for being part of this neighborhood and for the opportunity to meet each of you.  Please mark your calendar today for our upcoming ONA events.  This is our neighborhood and let’s continue to make it special.

Wishing you a successful 2018!

Looking forward to seeing you in 2018,

Elizabeth Neumann
President, ONA
